Harris to Perform Final Duties at Capitol Swear-ins for New Congressional Leaders

Today, Vice President Kamala Harris will swear in members of the U.S. Senate for the last time as the class of the 119th Congress convenes at the U.S. Capitol. It is the duty of the Vice president to swear in leaders in top federal positions and leaders of Congress.
Harris will also be responsible for swearing in Donald Trump the incomingvpresident who defeated her in the 2024 election. Just as he was by her side when she became tihe fisrt woman in the U.S. the become the Vice president the Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will attend the proceesings.
The previous Vice President. Mike Pence was in the middle of certifying theb2020 election results on January 6, 2017 when some Republicans rose to contest the results and riotors breached the Capitol.
