(TSN): President Donald Trump signed an executive order to end wokeness in Artificial Intelligence on Wednesday. Titled Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government it mandates that federal agencies procure only artificial intelligence models that adhere to two core principles: truth-seeking and ideological neutrality.
The executive order was spurred by growing concerns within the Trump administration that ideological bias—particularly related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)—was distorting the outputs of AI models.
The order is part of the Trump Administration's AI Action Plan, which aims to position the U.S. as a global leader in AI by removing regulatory barriers and promoting ideologically neutral technology
- Key Provisions:
Truth-Seeking: AI models must prioritize historical accuracy, scientific inquiry, and objectivity, acknowledging uncertainty when data is incomplete.
Ideological Neutrality: AI must not embed or promote concepts such as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), critical race theory, transgenderism, or systemic racism unless explicitly prompted by users.
- Implementation Timeline:
Within 120 days, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) will issue guidance for agencies to enforce these standards.
Federal contracts must include compliance clauses, with penalties for vendors who fail to meet the new criteria.
