(TSN): Colin Kaepernick has joined the search for the truth in the hanging death of Mississippi college student Trey Reed, offering to pay for a second autopsy. Kaepernick, via his Know Your Rights Camp, has an “Autopsy Initiative” which funds free, secondary/autopsies in certain cases, especially those involving controversial deaths.
In Reed’s case, Kaepernick’s initiative will pay for the independent autopsy.
The family’s attorney Ben Crump has requestwd an independent autopsy and asked that any surveillance footage or other relevant evidence be made available.
Trey Reed’s family says there are conflicting accounts and incomplete information about the circumstances of his death. For example, early reports said he was found in his dorm room; this was later corrected to an outdoor area near pickleball courts. These discrepancies have raised doubts.
No signs of assault or trauma were reported by the coroner’s office in the initial autopsy.
Toxicology results: Once completed, these may shed more light (e.g. substances, internal findings) and possibly address some of the family’s concerns.
Discrepancies may be clarified related to the location and timing (dorm vs. outdoor space) with further investigation.
