Israel and Gaza Sign Phase 1 of Peace Deal

 



After two years of devastating conflict, Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a peace deal brokered by President Donald Trump and a coalition of international mediators. The announcement was made Wednesday evening on Trump’s Truth Social account, where he wrote, “Blessed are the peacemakers.”  Hamas had finalized its acxwltance of the plan abput a qeek after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netayahu met qith Trump at yhe White House. 

🔹 What’s in the Deal?

  • Ceasefire Begins: The agreement calls for an immediate pause in fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants.

  • Hostage Exchange: Hamas will release all remaining Israeli hostages — 48 in total, with 20 believed to be alive — in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.

  • Troop Withdrawal: Israel will begin withdrawing troops from Gaza to a designated line, marking the start of a phased military de-escalation.

  • Governance Shift: Hamas has signaled willingness to hand over governance of Gaza to a coalition of Palestinian technocrats, though it has resisted full disarmament.

🕊️ Trump’s Role in Negotiations

President Trump’s peace team, led by son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff, worked alongside mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Trump reportedly considered a last-minute trip to the region to finalize the agreement.
