Pardoned Jan. 6 Rioter Threatens Congressman Hakeem Jeffries' Life

A pardoned January 6th rioter was arested Sunday for making  death threats against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. 

Christopher Moynihan made the threats  via text. Court documents say Moynihan wrote: “Hakeem Jeffries makes a speech in a few days in NYC I cannot allow this terrorist to live,” and, “Even if I am hated, he must be eliminated, I will kill him for the future.”

The incident underdcores safety concerns for public servants. Jeffries said in a statement: 

"The person arrested … was pardoned by Donald Trump on the President’s very first day in office … Unfortunately, our brave men and women in law‑enforcement are being forced to spend their time keeping our communities safe from these violent individuals who should never have been pardoned.” Hakeem Jeffries

Speaking to reporters at the Capitol Tuesday Jeffries said of the rise of violent extremism in Ameruca, "We will not bend, we will not break and we will never bow down."

One article noted that the U.S. Capitol Police projected around 14,000 threat‑assessment cases in 2025.

Saying she was "unhinged" and "sick" Jeffries had recently criticized Press Secretary Karoline Leavitts for  labeling all Democrats as "terrorists" among other things. 

Jeffries delivered the speech Monday at the Economic Club of New York per CBS News.

Moynihan  is scheduled to appear in court Thursday in Dutchess County, New York.
