Newser,
You may not know this, but underrepresentation in broadcast media is something that concerns me. It is not just about staffing duverse peiole. It can also pertain to the types of stories being told. Whether it is about women, the faith community, gospel music ministry, poverty, human suffering or political corruption, I am interested in knowing and sharing more. The fact that the housing crisis is not getting the attebtiin it deserves bothers me. (The tiny house trend is happenung out if necessity not because it is a fad.)
This focus I have on history and topics that matter outside of the Washington bubble has only advanced me so far and I will admit it use to bother me. I am no longer bothered because I realize life is not always fair and neither is working in Washington or adjacent to entertainment pariahs. I am doing my part and that is enough.
Unfortunately, many talented Black journos in the White House became known after they were attacked as well as others. I do not want anyone to know my work or my name in connection with embarrassment or controversy or even because I am in an inner circle of self-serving journalism elites. Some Black White House reporters gained publicity from Pres. Trump's insults after grinding at the White House for years. An African reporter pushed his way into the briefing space. Then, out of what I see as empathy they gained followers. If it does not come authentically, then I do not want it. I have continued to build media vehicles that other have attempted to usurp varioud aspects of my work. I am at a point in my career and LIFE where I have settled into my unique voice and it fuels me to carry on in my purpose with great dignity and truth. It feels good to be here doing exactly what I want to do and what I feel is necessary to do with the tools I have. I have a deep sense of conviction towards filling voids and closing gaps wheter I am directly impacted or not. That is why I put certain stories in the radar. So from my heart, for anyone who happens to come across this message, thank you for reading this. I love the field of journalism and hope you will follow my work. If you already do, I am sincerely grateful.
