Miss New York, Mallory Hagan, was crowned Miss America Saturday night after answering a question about allowing armed security in schools in the wake of the Newtown, CT school massacre.
To the question posed by GMA's Sam Chapion she replied that she opposed fighting violence with violence.
The 23-year-old from Brooklyn was the total "brains and beauty" package. She teased the crowd with electrifying footwork as she danced to James Brown's "Get Up Of Your Thing." During the evening wear segment she graced the runway in flaterring attire, a well-fitting assymetrial white ball gown and wore a rvealing black string bikini during he swim wear competition.
Hagan won a 50,000 college scholarship along with her title.
Child sexual abuse will be her platform during the one year reign. Hagan plans to work to make child sex abuse education mandatory in schools.
Hagan is the first New York beauty Queen to win Miss America since Vanessa Williams won in 1984.
Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers, was the runner-up second and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton finished third.
