SWEEPING CHANGES AS THE MISS AMERICA ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCES CANDIDATES WILL NO LONGER BE JUDGED ON PHYSICAL APPEARANCE There are major changes ahead for the Miss America Organization starting this September. Going forward, Chairwoman Gretchen Carlson  says competitors will not be judged on their looks but what comes out of their mouths. In addition to eliminating the swimsuit competition, another change is that women may wear pants instead of dresses. Miss New York Wins Miss America

buzzz worthy. . . Happy New Year!  Miss New York, Mallory Hagan,  was crowned Miss America  Saturday night after answering a question about allowing armed security in schools in the wake of the Newtown, CT school massacre.  To the question posed by GMA's Sam Chapion she replied that she opposed fighting violence with violence. The 23-year-old from Brooklyn was the total "brains and beauty" package.  She teased the crowd with electrifying footwork as she danced to James Brown's "Get Up Of Your Thing." During the evening wear segment she graced the runway in flaterring attire, a well-fitting assymetrial white ball gown and wore a rvealing black string bikini during he swim wear competition. Hagan won a 50,000 college scholarship along with her title.
