Statement from the Vice President on the Second Anniversary of January 6, 2021

On January 6th, 2021, American democracy endured a violent assault. Armed with deadly weapons and animated by lies and hate, insurrectionists invaded the United States Capitol in an attempt to overturn a lawful election and silence the voice of the people. Because of the bravery of our law enforcement officers and the resolve of the people’s representatives, this assault on our democracy failed. In the two years since, Americans of courage and conviction—Republicans, Democrats, and independents—have come together to defend freedom, liberty, and the rule of law. In our communities and at the ballot box, they have made their voices heard. And our nation is stronger for it. A Proclamation on National Disability Employment Awareness Month, 2021

  SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 • PRESIDENTIAL ACTIONS In a proclamation  Pres. Joe Biden acknowledges America's progress in assisting disabled American and the continued need for improvement.  He proclaimed the month of October as National Disability Awareness Mount.  More than 60 millions Americans are disabled.  On July 31 speaking form the White House Rose Garden at an event recognizing the 31st Anniversary of the Amreican's with Disabiliteis Act, " He recalled a time when laws to supoort the disabled did not exist. Said the president, "M any of us can still recall an America where a person with a disability was denied service in restaurants and grocery stores, and could be; where a person using a wheelchair couldn’t ride on a train or take a bus to work or to school; where an employer could refuse to hire you because of a disability.  An America that wasn’t built for all Americans." It has been 20 years since the 911 attack. Given the recent pull out from Afghanistan, memories of loss and war are fresh on America's consciousness. It has been two decades of major changes in the country, from the development ofa Homeland Security Dpartment to the way we travel. We remember the U.S. military and Pentagon workers, the flgith attendants, PA and ground zero in NYC. The White House has proclaimed a nationald day of prayerand remembrance as we reflect as a nation on this sobering time in our nation's history.

  NEWS ROUND UP Now that the U.S. is out of Afghanistan, Pres. Joe Biden is juggling another crisis, this one out of human control -- the weather and climate change. Biden has approved disaster relief for multiple states this week promising to send the supplies and resources neceessary for recovery efforts in Louisiana, Missouri, New York and New Jersey. More forceful and rapidly reccuring weather disasters have hit the nation from coast-to-coast, which Democratic lawmakers say is proof their infrastructure plan is necessary. The president visits New Orleans today where there is major damage from Hurricane Ida. The storm swept up to the Notheast where 43 people have died mainly between New York and New Jesey from floods. On the economy. . .Employment slowed in the month of August with 235,000 jobs being added, a smaller gain than expected after two months of growth during a swell in the Coronavirus.
