By Mona Austin (TSN): Vice President Kamala Harris in Raleigh, North Carolina introduced the idea of a federal ban on price gouging for groceries as a component of her economic agenda. She rolled out the strategy on how she plans to help working families save money in the Tar Hill state and nationwide. The easier- said-than-done ambition is in response to rising food costs that have dampened consumer confidence in the economy. But markets are innately dictated and controlled by the functions of supply and demand, not government mandates. The U.S. operates on a free enterprise system where owners have a right to set prices for commodities. The notion of gouging is subjective mostly. So, it may take some time to sell this proposed solution on controlling pricing. Harris told the audience of supporters that she fought against corporate greed as the Attorney General of California.
