Reactions to the House impeachment vote passing in blue and red states

By Mona Austin Both sides have responded to the biggest step in deciding the fate of President Donald Trump surrounding a range of obstruction of justice accusations, the House-approved resolution to pursue a formal impeachment. Democrats are giving the Republicans a taste of their own medicine when they set the rules. Rep. Steve Scalise said it is a "Soviet-styled," "sham." They president brought this on himself by telling just about anyone connected to him not to cooperate in hearings. A genereal lack of cooperation and stone-walling from Reoublicans in many instances has come back to "haunt" him on this Halloween day. The opposition party one argued that the process was flawed because blames Pelosi did not hold a vote, but are now for utilizing oversight authority that has prevented them from participating in closed-dor hearings, a precendent in and deciding to keep We take no joy in having to ove down ths road and proceed wit...

NOTHING YET IN IMPEACHMENT PROBE EXCEPT TRUMP ENGAGES IN WITNESS INTIMIDATION ON TWITTER

IMPEACHMENT UPDATE... By Mona Austin (The Slice): Witness intimidation was a focus of exploration on day-2 of the impeachment hearing. Former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch told Democrat counsels she felt intimidated by the president tweeting @ her while she was giving her testimony. Chairman of the Intel Committee Adam Schiff read aloud a tweet from Pres. Trump live tweeted that things "went bad" wherever she showed up, an action some are calling impeachable itself some pundits say. The witness admitted that she felt intimidated by the tweet and Schiff opined that is it what was "designed" to do. Daniel Goldman, a former legal analyst for MSNBC, was appointed by Schiff to act as Democratic Counsel. posed multiple questions to Yovanovitch about her sudden dismissal from a post she held for 33 years. This part of the discovery revealed the Rudy Guiliani worked to have her fired. Yovanovitch agreed that in those busin...

Partisanship creates stronghold in impeachment hearing

Partisan stronghold over impeachment process hovers as public impeachment hearing starts (The Slice): "The impeachment hearing is based on a constitutional standard and needs to run its course," Mayor Pete Buttigieg stated recently about the GOP push back as the challenge to presidency of Donald J. Trump. These are empty words to House Republicans who are seemingly ignoring the fact that the Democratic run House has the authority to establish the rules for the impeachment process, a privilege that goes to the party that holds the majority in the chamber -- in this case, the Democrats. Republicans generally view the impeachment inquiry and subsequent hearing stemming from Pres. Donald Trump's July 25 phone call with the leader of the Ukraine a "sham," constantly complaining that the closed-door hearings are keeping the testimonies of key players from the public. Democrats and Republics are currently in a partisan tug-of-war over who will...

What the public hearing is not about in a word: quid pro quo

Image
OPINION by Mona Austin On Wednesday a public impeachment hearing featuring two key witnesses of the controversial July 25 phone conversation between Pres. Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky of the Ukraine will be televised. There is something the American people should know before tuning in: while you are watching, Trump will be tweeting, "There was no quid pro quo. . .The call was perfect " The echo of this line lingers in the minds of millions who have heard it repeated to media over the last seven weeks from the Oval office to his shouted responses to questions when departing the White House under the loud propeller sound of Marine 1. The former reality TV star, knows how to hold audience with the masses and will continue to direct those watching about what to pay attention to. The Democrats' goal is to prove the president betrayed his oath of office when asking Zelenskiy to investigate his political rival Vice Pres. Joe Biden's son Hunter Bid...

Mueller probe is over, search for collusion is not under Schiff's leadership

By Mona Austin The two-year investigation conducted by Special Council Robert Mueller concluded last Friday, but for Democrats the search for the truth has only just begun.  The Mueller report found there was no collusion on the part of Pres. Trump related to Russia's inteference in the 2016 election. Pres. Trump is declaring victory over what he calls a witch hunt, tweeting: "No collusion, no obstruction. Complete and total exoneration. Keep America Great."  In the report, Mueller did not spell out that the president is exonerated, leaving room for interpretation. Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff (D-CA) contradicted Mueller's findings saying he believes there is evidence of collusion and along with all members of the House said the report should be released.   Trump appointed Attorney General William Barr provided a 4-page summary of the 400-page Mueller Report, which Democrats say is a one-sided assessment.  Schiff said it was a "...
