'Lifetime,' we have a problem- Girlfriend Intervention

buzzz worthy. . . The Lifetime Network needs an  intervention after the premiere of  "Girlfriend Intervention".  Taking ques from the Bravo Network's hit series "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,"  the press release describes the show as  "four wise, poised and stylish African American women, who, in each episode, help a white sister seeking a complete makeover to restore her confidence and inner glow." It's an attempt to expand their African American audience and build on the popularity of makeover shows.  Interpretation:  it's a makeover show where four black women team up to show plain Jane white women (referred to as BW's--basic women) how to be more stylish and fashionable -- "like" Black women are. Gabby Douglas biopic and Trip to Bountiful movie come to Lifetime for Black History month

buzzz worthy. . . Lifetime has announced it will air two original movies in celebration of Black History Month this February. The first will be a biopic about the life of two-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas in "The Gabby Douglas Story." Imani Hakim (Everybody Hates Chris, Love Reign Over Me) and Sydney Mikayla (Whitney) have been cast to share the role. The real-life Gabby Douglas will appear in the film, which also stars Peabody Award-winning actress Regina King (Southland, Ray) and Golden Globe® and Emmy®-winner S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order). Filmed in Canada, "The Gabby Douglas Story" airs on Saturday, February 1 at 8 PM ET/PT. Also, Lifetime is inviting schools across the country to take the Gabby Douglas Raise the Bar Pledge for a chance to win $10,000.
