"The pen is mightier than the sword." IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR IDA  First in a series, this essay is a summary of the life and legacy of Ida Be. Wells-Barnett a journalist, organizer and civil rights pioneer.  Presented by The Slice News, the series is named " It Had Not Been For." It is easy to assume that the freedoms in today's society were always the case. The goal of the series to to spotlight whose actions impacted society in a positive way.  Ida V. Keeping the community informed, the former Mississippi born teacher was an investigative journalist who made it her business to educate Blacks about their rights and their worth throughout her life. Her words would be read or shared with many people who could not read during the Reconstruction period, thus the simplicity in her approach. SCLC Women leader passes away at 88

      Civil rights champion, Dr. Evelyn Lowery the wife of Civil Rights Leader Dr. Joseph Lowery has passed away.  After suffering a stroke last week, Mrs. Lowery died in a Georgia hospital surrounded by family on September 25.  She was 88.  Both public servants, the Lowerys were married to each other and the cause of social justice for nearly 70 years. Statement for Rev. Joseph Lowery Regarding the Passing of his wife, Dr. Evelyn Lowery My beloved Evelyn was a special woman, whose life was committed to service, especially around the issues of empowering women,” Joseph E. Lowery said in a statement Wednesday. “She was a wonderful mother and wife and I thank God that she didn’t suffer any pain and that I was blessed having her as my partner, my confidant and my best friend for close to 70 years.
