First Lady Jill Biden, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and Becky Pringle, president of the National Education Association participated in a virtual event to honor the work of educators on January 21, 2021. Keeping her promise to be an advocate for educators, Dr. Biden made this her first order of business. She spoke about the importance and value of teachers, saying they are responsible for getting students to think. She spent the first day in office by her husband's side engaged in inauguration activities. The next day the Villanova University grad said, "I couldn't wait one more day to have this meeting becasue I have never felt more prouder of our profession." First Lady Biden has been vocal about her concerns for safely returnig to school during the pandemic. She also spoke of being able to relate to the general needs of teachers and students.
