FLOTUS DAY 1: Dr. Jill Biden connects with educators in virtual event

 


First Lady Jill Biden, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and Becky Pringle, president of the National Education Association participated in a virtual event to honor the work of educators on January 21, 2021.  Keeping her promise to be an advocate for educators, Dr. Biden made this her first order of business.  She spoke about the importance and value of teachers, saying they are responsible for getting students to think.  

She spent the first day  in office by her husband's side engaged in inauguration activities. The next day the Villanova University grad said, "I couldn't wait one more day to have this meeting becasue I have never felt more prouder of our profession."  First Lady Biden has been vocal about  her concerns for safely returnig to school during the pandemic. She also spoke of being able to relate to the general needs of teachers and students.  To view today's event click here.

Alabama Pastor Shot and Killed in Domestic Incident

Pastor Da’Quarius Green , a 31-year-old leader of Elba Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama, was shot on Dec. 23, 2025 and died several days later in the hospital after a domestic dispute at his home in Level Plains . Authorities have described the shooting as a “domestic incident” involving his wife,  𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐲. Local news station WTVY reported "c ourt records show that Green was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence charges 3 times in Houston County last year, with each of those cases dismissed. Also in 2024, a woman filed a protection order against Green in Houston County in which she believed him to be a danger," but did not confirm Mrs. Massey as the suspect.    Various reports indicate the couple's children were present when he was shot in the head.   In one instance, a woman who shared children with Green alleged that he repeatedly struck her , including once when she was pregnant.
