The DOJ will argue against Byron Allen in Comcast case at the Supreme Court

Image
(The Slice): Byron Allen v. Comcast is headed to the Supreme Court on Nov. 13 with a $20 billion racial bias case and the Trump DOJ is now involved in the action. Allen said Comcast is giving the DOJ 10 minutes to state their views against him before the 9 justices, an action he called "heinous" and "unprecedented." Back in August Allen said, “Donald Trump’s DOJ and Comcast are working together to destroy a civil rights statute in the U.S. Supreme Court.” The 9th Circuit court of appeals ruled in Allen's favor twice with Comcast and Charter. He adds: “You have one of the biggest media companies in the world, which has been beating up Donald Trump for racism, and now they are saying, we will work together to maintain institutionalized racism in America, in this Amicus Brief . . .," according to Deadline. At the heart of the matter is the fact that Comcast airs in many African American areas but refuses to license and distribute ...

King’s unfinished symphony of freedom

buzzz worthy. . . BY JESSE JACKSON August 19, 2013 Next weekend, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, best known for Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Dream.” Fifty years later, the dream challenges us yet. It is alive because it is not static. The dream of equal rights and equal opportunity, of being judged for character, not color, has transformed this nation. Much progress has been forged; much remains to be done. One way to think about the Civil Rights Movement and Dr. King’s Dream is as a symphony of freedom. In that victory, the movement freed not only African-Americans but also the South to grow, and opened access to libraries and hotels, trains and restaurants, pools and parks. Rosa Parks could sit wherever she wanted to on that bus. The th...

Rand Paul changes his position on Civil Rights at Howard University

buzzz worthy. . . Sen. Rand Paul  (R-KY) changed his position on the Civil Rights Act when responding to a question at an event that was held at Howard University yesterday. It’s a mischaracterization of my position. I’ve never been against the Civil Rights Act, ever, and I continue to be for the Civil Rights Act as well as the Voting Rights Act. There was a long, one interview that had a long, extended conversation about the ramifications beyond race, and I have been concerned about the ramifications of certain portions of the Civil Rights Act beyond race, as they are now being applied to smoking, menus, listing calories and things on menus, and guns. And so I do question some of the ramifications and the extensions but I never questioned the Civil Rights Act and never came out in opposition to the Civil Rights Act or ever introduced anything to alter the Civil Rights Act. MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said Paul is flat out lying: “I remember [ the interview ] because it...
