President Biden Announces Intent to Nominate 11 Judicial Candidates, mostly women
Judge Ketanji Brown is one of 11 people on a slate of historic nominees to serve as federal judges selected by Pres. Joe Biden and would be the first Black to sit on the federal bench. This is the first time the majority of the nominees have been women (8 of 10). Varied by race, culture, and breadth of experience the group reflects a commitment to diversity and inclusion in the government by that "looks like America." Judge Brown, an Obama appointee, was previously considered for the High Court. With this nomination to the DC Court of appeals as a top circuit judge, she would be in a favorable position for a future path to the supreme court should a vacancy open. If Biden's nomination is confirmed she would occupy the seat vacated by recently confirmed U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
