A Proclamation on Overdose Awareness Week, 2024

During Overdose Awareness Week, we mourn those who have lost their lives to overdose deaths.  We acknowledge the devastating toll the opioid epidemic has taken on individuals, families, and communities across America.  We reflect on the progress we have made so far in reducing the number of annual overdose deaths and protecting American lives — and how much more there is to do.  And we reaffirm our commitment to doing more to disrupt the supply of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids and support those who suffer with substance use disorder and their families in all of our communities. My Administration made beating the opioid epidemic a key priority in my Unity Agenda for the Nation, calling for Republicans and Democrats to work together to stop fentanyl from flowing into our communities, hold those who brought it here accountable, and deliver life-saving medication and care across America.   We are working to tackle this crisis through a comprehensive approac...

By Mona Austin U.S. Pres. Joe Biden set out to "write the next chapter of partnership" with Kenya in a state visit for Pres. William Ruto, the first such engagement with an African nation in over 20 years.  The goal of the  3-day visit to the U.S.   was to deepen diplomatic relations  of  60 years with the country. "The decisions we make now will determine the course of our future for decades to come," said Biden at the welcoming ceremony.  Biden and Ruto signed many agreements but the one "co-sign" that signified a deeper level in the relationship on the spot was when the U.S. leader said he has recommended Kenya to be a NATO ally. Several funding investment deals from the US were also agreed to and announced Thursday afternoon. Biden announced he is going to ask Congress to make Kenya the first country to receive funds from the SHIPS and Science Act.  But we’re providing $250 million -- the United States is -- to the World Back in a crisi...

President Biden’s “Historic Record” of Delivering for Black Americans

This weekend, as President Biden attended events in Georgia and Michigan to engage with the Black community, Team Biden-Harris took to the airwaves to highlight President Biden’s record of delivering for Black Americans after Donald Trump failed them. Since taking office, President Biden has made record investments in historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), achieved the lowest Black unemployment rate in our history, spurred a 30-year high in Black small business growth, and more. President Biden and Vice President Harris have kept their promises to the Black community — and they’re running for reelection because there’s more to do. Here’s just some of what they are saying: On  MSNBC , Biden-Harris 2024 National Advisory Board Member Senator Warnock:  “[President Biden] has invested $16 billion in historically Black colleges and universities… And the president has invested $160 billion in student debt relief that has helped some 4 million Americans. Black w...
