buzzz worthy. . . In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court has struck down section 3 the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The landmark ruling for gay rights references the 1996 law blocking federal recognition of same-sex marriages. Now same-sex couples will have the benefits and protections available to married couples under federal law. The ban on California's Proposition 8 that previous blocked gay marriage has now been lifted under this new ruling. The decision was written by Justice Anthony Kennedy.
