By Mona Austin The 71st Annual Emmy Awards was the best I recall seeing in recent memory. It is too bad that the ratings don't reflect it. There was never a dull moment as the meaningful speeches and comedy from presenters interwoven in the show ranged from funny to serious. This year's hostless Emmys were the lowest ranked in viewership in the history of the show, unfortunately. Perhaps the negativity around award shows took it's toll. HBO topped winners with 34, followed by Netflix with 27 and Amazon with 15. A few highlights and then on to all the winners. . . Billy Porter became the first gay Black male to win. He wore a statement-making oblong pirate inspired hat that get its share of comments online. Game Of Thrones, which ended its run this year, bowed out triumphantly.
