It transpired at Congregation Beth Israel, a Reform synagogue in the city of Colleyville, about 30 miles northwest of Dallas. Malik Faisal Akram, a 44-year-old British national had released the hostages before the FBI hostage rescue team killed him. Akram had only been in the U.S. for 5 weeks. He was seeking the release of Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist who is currently serving an 86-year prison term in the US, law enforcement officials told local media.
