Like m ost R&B crooners, Glenn Jones got his start in the church. But, unlike most, he was first signed to Savoy Records by the late King of Gospel, the Rev. James Cleveland. His is also one of few artists who can say he shared a duet with two legends. He sang "Ever Changing Times" with the late Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin and "Finder of Lost Loves" with Dione Warwick. He was only 5 when he asked to sing in front of their pentecostal congregation.  By the age of  8 he went on tour with a group called the Bivens Specials.  From Jacksonville, FLA where he began  to Atlanta where he now resides, there were many twists and turns in his career.   It is hard to understand how a voice of his quality did not reach the heights of many less capable singers, but he was undeniably one of the strongest male vocalists  in 80s era Black music.  Jones is opening up about his never-before-told story on TV One's UnSung this Sunday, April 7 at 9/8 Central. ...

Candi Staton to appear on "Unsung"

buzzz worthy. . . Four Time Grammy Award nominated music legend Candi Staton is featured in a special two-hour episode of TV One’s “Unsung” cable TV series. The popular series devotes two hours to the history of the 1970s disco era with fresh interviews by its key players such as Gloria Gaynor, Nile Rodgers (Chic), K.C. & The Sunshine Band and Candi Staton, among others. Staton, who earned disco hits such as “Young Hearts Run Free”, “Run to Me”, “When You Wake Up Tomorrow” and “Victim” in the `70s, talks about the impact of disco music on culture and how her signature song “Young Hearts Run Free” was based on an abusive ex-husband. She also says in the piece that she grew tired of the disco lifestyle and became a born again Christian to save her soul.
