BREAKING NEWS : Trump Convicted in Hush Money Trial

By Mona Austin A Manhattan jury has found former Pres. Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts in a "hush money" case revolving around his attempt to cover up an affair with porn star Stormy Daniels. A 12-person jury delivered the unprecedented decision after nearly 12 hours of deliberations. The verdict confirmed Trump's $130k pay out to Daniels was done to hide their relationship while he was running for office. Trump is the first ex-president in history to be convicted of a crime. Being found of guilty linked to falsifying business records finally shows he is not above the law. But when it comes to getting indicted in court the 45th president has been there, done that and has the t-shirt, but so far has not suffered the consequence. Will Trump get jail time or continue to run for the presidency? REVIEW: Barbie movie focuses on making relationships optional

Dressed as "Boss/Reporter #Barbie ," I am reporting from Barbieland where life is always good. Like millions of girls raised in the seventies I wanted to be a Barbie girl living in a Barbie world. For my generation, Barbie reflected th changes in the women's liberation movement. The movie about the iconic pro-woman doll opens with a narrator explaining, "Since the beginning of time...there have always been dolls. But the dolls were always baby dolls. Barbie changed everything. She might have started out as a lady in a bathing suit. She is so much more..." 'Tis true... Barbie is an icon who changed how American girls and women see themselves. Imaginative girls who played with the toy wete transported out of the home to where ever they wanted to go in a range of roles. Gradually, over a 60 year period she went from her Malibu Beach doll Mansion to outer space. The evolution of Barbie mirrored women's progress in America in some instances and...

THE SLICE NEWS TOP STORIES OF 2023

THE SLICE NEWS: As we close the final page on 2023, let's look back at the topics that we covered the most and why we chose them. As an independent news source the content we deliver is a testament to our values. Legacy media chooses to rehash old news to be competitive, denying the American people a taste of the feast of subject matter to which they deserve to be exposed. We can't do it all. No one can. But we can at east be different. AND deliberate about not depriving people of being educated on more than a handful of the same topics. We are as informative as possible in the news snippet format, providing a broad range of news. Every day we wake up to share news that has an affect on you and our world. Everyday choosing what to prioritize in our coverage and how long to keep various topics afloat in an ever-changing news cycle gets more difficult. Since 2020 political news has been the most watched. And just when you think it could not get any more turbulent anot...

View from the back: Sidelined White House reporters call out peer for ending press briefing as press room tensions unravel

Image
Staff Report BACKGROUND: On March 8, 2022 a group of White House reporters had enough of their questions being ignored in press briefings. Their frustration came to a tipping point when a front row colleague signaled to the press secretary to call the session to an end. Unfamiliar with this longstanding tradition, more than half of the reporters. who did not get to ask their questions -- disapproved, wanting an explanation as to why a peer was given the time-keeping task. As their voices united to demand a more fair and equitable approach, Mona Austin a White House Correspondent for The Slice News, asked if the issue of guided press engagement was a concern for the White House Correspondent Association. President of the White House Correspondent's Association Steve Portnoy then intervened. For months correspondents in the back rows of the briefing room complained among themselves and sometimes to Press Secretary Jen Psaki as she was leaving the room that more questions sho...

Don't trivialize mental illness and let the Buffalo Tops attacker get away with murtder

Black press must respond to the frivolity of mental illness in US courts reflected in Buffalo shooting case By Mona Austin Peyton Gendron killed 10 people and injured 3 other in a shootin attack at a Buffalo. He has written in a jornal that he would have to kill th security guard who had previously question his supicious behavior when he came to the store motnhs earlier. (The Slice News) -- Truth: The Buffalo grocery store shooter did not kill 10 Black people because he is mentally ill. He killed them out of the fear of a Black planet and having a hate-filled heart. He consciously suited up in tactical gear and stepped onto a grocery store parking lot as if he was going to war. The deaths of the victims were pre-meditated. But when he went to court he plead not guilty and his mental state will be the crutch on which the defense stands. Mental illness , which has increased in the U.S. during the pandemic, is too serious to be used an excuse in cases such as this. There are...

Statement by President Joe Biden on Clemency and Second Chance Month and list of pardons and commutations

Image
Photo by Mona Austin America is a nation of laws and second chances, redemption, and rehabilitation. Elected officials on both sides of the aisle, faith leaders, civil rights advocates, and law enforcement leaders agree that our criminal justice system can and should reflect these core values that enable safer and stronger communities. During Second Chance Month, I am using my authority under the Constitution to uphold those values by  pardoning and commuting  the sentences of fellow Americans. Today, I am pardoning three people who have demonstrated their commitment to rehabilitation and are striving every day to give back and contribute to their communities. I am also commuting the sentences of 75 people who are serving long sentences for non-violent drug offenses, many of whom have been serving on home confinement during the COVID-pandemic—and many of whom would have received a lower sentence if they were charged with the same offense today, thanks to the bipartisan ...
