Capturing the general news cloud as well as the subjects that uniquely pertain to Black life and culture, The Slice News is a trusted newsmaker located in the DMV. The African-American and woman owned digital news brand was established in 2020 during a period of yellowing journalism. Troubled by widespread misinformation, Mulitmedia Journalist Mona Austin built a reliable platform in response to alternative, politically driven "fake news, "influencer "reporting," paid subscription based news services, Black gossip outlets, the over-saturation of activist reporting and stale legacy media coverage. We do not focus on recycled headlines or sensational click bait but provide hard news in a straight-forward manner that adheres to the standards of journalism. The Black community deserves more than "rip, read and repeat" reporting -- we deserve a serious voice in the press in the midst of both crisis and clam.
