Today the body of late South Carolina lawmaker Clementa Pinckney lies in state, a week after he was murdered with 8 churchgoers at the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Pinckney, 41 the pastor of Emanuel and one the youngest members to ever serve in the South Carolina Senate. The dignified and honorable farewell was bestowed Rev. Pinckney as a respected statesman. His ebony casket was delivered the the rotunda of the capitol by horse drawn carriage with full regalia. Yet, a black drape covered the window to hide the Confederate flag his assassin revered, unable to veil the deeply seeded darkness it symbolize. Thousands came to pay their respect surrounded by controversy over the removal of the Confederate flag, which will continue to wave until state legislators vote to retire it. Picnkney will be eulogized by President Obama on Friday.
