Did you know that drinking alcohol daily can be cancer causing? The U. S. Surgeon General is calling to bring attention to the cancer risk of alcohol. Dr. Vivek Murthy recently issued an advisory highlighting the link between alcohol consumption and cancer risk. The advisory states that alcohol is the third leading preventable cause of cancer in the U.S., after tobacco and obesity. Dr. Murthy emphasized that even small amounts of alcohol can increase the risk of developing several types of cancer, including breast, colorectal, liver, mouth, throat, and esophageal cancers. Dr. Murthy also called for an update to the warning labels on alcoholic beverages to include information about the cancer risk. He recommended reassessing the current guidelines for alcohol consumption to better reflect this risk and to increase public awareness about the dangers of alcohol-related cancers.
