Woman marries herself
buzzz worthy. . .
A glaring 70% of African American woman are single or unwed
and roughly 70% of African American children are being raised in single-parent
homes according to various studies on African American families. With the divorce rate in America being about
50/50 people are trying something new to beat the odds of a failed marriage.
Tired of waiting on a suitor, Yasmin Eleby an African
American woman in of Houston has become the first known person in the U.S. to
marry herself. She vowed that if she was
not married by the age of forty she would pursue matrimony alone. So on January 3 at the Houston Museum of African
American Culture she put on a purple gown and walked down the aisle at a lavish
wedding with 10 bridesmaids and said "I do" to herself.
Technically a solo wedding is not legal.
The ceremony was moreso a spiritual gesture performed by Eleby’s
minister sister.
