TARAJI P. HENSON: 'My child has been racially profiled'

buzzz worthy. . .

"Empire" star Taraji P. Henson is the real life mom  of a young black male who has faced police prejudice.  After worrying about her 20-year-old son, Marcel following multiple incidents of racial profiling in Southern California, she decided to transfer him across the country to her alma mater, Howard University, a historically Black college located in Washington, DC.

In an excerpt from an article in the February/March issue of Uptown Magazine Henson explains why she made the choice:

My child has been racially profiled. He was in Glendale, California and did exactly everything the cops told him to do, including letting them illegally search his car. It was bogus because they didn’t give him the ticket for what he was pulled over for."

Then he’s at University of Southern California, the school that I was going to transfer him to, when police stopped him for having his hands in his pockets. So guess where he’s going? Howard University. I’m not paying $50K so I can’t sleep at night wondering is this the night my son is getting racially profiled on campus.

In previous interviews Henson, an HU Class of '95 alum, stated she walked across the stage with her son in her hands.  It seems only fitting that her son continues the HU legacy.

The View's Whoopi Goldberg pointed out that a change of environment may not solve the issue.
