Betsy DeVos officially nominated for Sec. of Education by smallest possible margin

buzzz worthy. . .

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) has nominated Betsy DeVos in a 12-11 vote along party lines to head the Department of Education today. She becomes the nominee by the smallest margin possible, a one vote difference.

Devos now awaits a senate vote to formally confirm her role by a simple majority.

The confirmation hearing was intense as one Democrat after the other grilled her with questions intended to show the candidate was incompetent and unqualified for the job. Devos received widespread public opposition due to her support of charter schools and lack of experience in public education. She is an advocate for "school choice." Wealth was also factor held against her as a possible indication she could note relateto those who may rely on the federal government for college financial aid.

With only a one vote difference the nomination was challenged more recently with allegations that DeVos plagiarized some of her answers during the hearing. Democrats are investigating the claim before the vote goes to the senate.
