LISTEN: Journalist becomes the subject of the story after a near death experience and supernatural recovery, releases healing song for the nation

Mona Austin
Nationally known Multimedia Journalist, Mona Austin started 2018 fighting for her life. A near-death experience made her the subject of her own lead story.  It was announced today that "Big Beautiful River," a song that was birth during that experience has been released.

"Big Beautiful River" is a prophetic poem that came from a vision that opens with the voice of a sage describing a nation undergoing an identity crisis. I
n the tradition of poet Gil Scot Heron,  the discerning lyrics turns the mind's eye toward the potential downfall of America if there is not revolutionary change.  It is a direct  diagnosis  of the social and spiritual ills of the Church in America, an urgent cry for social justice and the healing of a nation growing numb to its self-inflicted pain. Austin sang, wrote  and produced the single.

"I believe that if God healed me He can heal our land.  I see brighter days in the future forecast of the USA.  But first, America and the church must be accountable for their separate and collective faults.

The message in "Big Beautiful River" is directed to Believers. Austin attests that God wants Believers involved in establishing public policy and to stand against racism, bigotry and all forms of discrimination. Outside of abortion, Israel and border control, Evangelicals, one of the most influential branches of the church are silent on many issues that affect civic processes that require a moral perspective.

The river is a metaphor for the Church. Water can be destructive or it can purge and heal. Austin said, "My prayer is that churches of all denominations will unify around common interests and atone for the socio-political sins that have been committed and/or permitted in the name of God throughout American history."

The song is intended to spark dialogue on social media platforms, in small groups and bible study at churches, and conversations among co-workers.

"Big Beautiful River" is available via download for $10.

"My being here is nothing short of a miracle.  I want to encourage others with my testimony and song.  God is a healer.  He is also a God of judgement. The Church has a choice to either be accountable for its infractions and heal or continue in silence as society deteriorates. God can turn our nation around if we turn to Him." said the now Evangelist.

"BIG BEAUTIFUL RIVER" LYRICS

There's a river
Big beautiful river
And it's got your name on it, got my name on it
Justice flows downstream
Freedom for me

One day that river is gonna come to an end
But until then
Don't call yourself a tree, you're still a river

Glory to the the Lamb of God
The river is calling you
Glory to the Lamb of God
Let the children come

We must spread the good news
All across the nation
From generation to generation
Purifies our souls, mighty, mighty river

The single is dedicated to women with heart disease.  For a donation of $10 the song is available ion Soundcloud in the form of a downloadable MP3.  Support for the project will enable Mrs. Austin to recoup hospital expenses and spread the gospel far and wide.

BACKGROUND AND TESTIMONY

On January 8, Mona Austin visited the local hospital emergency room hoping to have a same-day procedure performed. Due to a heart condition, the staff insisted that she be transported to a heart specialist to get the procedure done in a nearby Fairfax, VA. Within a few hours of transport passed out and remained in a medically induced coma in ICU on life support for nearly 3 weeks.     Numerous illnesses were attacking her body at the same time, requiring the attention of doctors from several departments to crowd the room to save her. Doctors had told her then 18-year-old daughter who had initially driven her to the hospital she would not make it.

When the mother of two, then 45,  woke up with a breathing tube in her mouth and IVs in both arms she immediately recognized the severity of the situation.  Her lungs had collapsed from excessive fluid and heart had failed, leaving her body too week to function without life support.  But three days later the nightmare would end. Austin regained consciousness, fully functional both mentally and physically.  Doctors were stunned by the miraculous turn-around.

A day later, on January 20, which marked the one year anniversary of Pres. Donald Trump's  time in office  Austin was faced with the grim reality that the nation was also fighting for its life.  The news-starved reporter had turned the television to CNN.  Footage of furious demonstators  fighting for immigration reform rolled on screen.  A government shut down was pending over disagreements with Congress. Pro-immigration protests were happening in Washington and other parts of the country.  Commentators had nothing good to say.  Austin sadly watched  and prayed for the nation to be healed.

As she laid in ICU images of historic events played in the history buff's head.  Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit she penned the  words to "Big Beautiful River," which is a metaphor for Christians in America, cleansing and rebirth. Austin believes many of the social problems the country faces are rooted in racism and can be traced back to America's original sin -- slavery. Until there is confrontation and atonement for this stain on the nation, hatred will continues Austin feels.  It necessary for the nation to address the corruption and tyranny upon which the country was founded as well.  While she believes the nation can heal it will only come when the truth is acknowledged.

Following this physical transformation, Austin accepted the call to the ministry of Evangelism.  She will be sharing a mix of the gospel and news commentary in a podcast entitled "Under an Open Sky," accessible via YouTube.

As a first act of online ministry,  on Thursday, May 3, the National Day of Prayer  Austin posted a prayer for the nation on Google calling for an apology for slavery.
