TRANSCRIPT: Trump and Kim Jong Un reach for peace with signing of unclear denuclearisation agreement

Pres. Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un shake hands in their first meeting on June 11, 2018 in Singapore.
By Mona Austin

The path to peace on the North Korean peninsula has begun with a June 11 historic meeting in Singapore between Kim Jong-un and Pres. Donald Trump.  The leaders signed a joint denuclearization agreement.  Four points of the diplomatic effort are outlined in the agreement below.

The status of the peace-seeking attempt needs clarification.

The world waits to see how the talks between Trump and Kim will turn out. North Korea did not specify what they plan to do.

Trump is giving the peace process 6 months.
The U.S. offered a specific concession.  For the time being, he explicitly stated the U.S. will abandon participation in any military exercises with their enemy, South Korea. This statement is not in the written agreement.

Previous wording (specifically "reaffirm commitment") about depleting their nuclear arsenal was reiterated on the part of North Korea.  A nuclear site there was destroyed before the meeting.
With numerous aspects of their meeting being staged, it gives the impression that Trump was used to elevate Kim to the level of a legitimate world leadership.  Both men expressed happiness about holding the meeting. Said Kim, (as interpreted)  "Well, it was not easy to get here.  The past worked as fetters on our limbs, and the old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward.  But we overcame all of them, and we are here today."

However, it appears Kim got more out of the meeting than Trump.
No other previous U.S. president has sat down with a North Korean dictator due to tensions mainly stemming from inhumane acts such as torture and starvation.

On ABC, Trump said "He trusts me . . .and I trust him."  Further noting that the young leader told no other president could have done this.

..."We need to understand the statement" North Koeran officials said in a release following the meeting, although translators were present.

Otto Warmbier, an American student was tortured and died days after being released from a prison  in North Korea.  A reporter asked Mr. Trump  why knowing of the abusive actions North Korea has taken he is  so comfortable calling Kim "very talented after starving and abusing his people." Mr. Trump replied "He is very talented?"  Trump dodged the questions and fufurtherauded Kim  as "very smart and a very strong negotiator."

A friend of both Trump and Kim, E-NFL player Deniis Rodman arrived in Singapore ahead of the meeting.  In a CNN interview, Rodman emotionally stated that he got death threats for trying to support a peace deal with North Korea 5 years ago. He said he could not leave the country for 30 days and until now he kept this information to himself.  Conservatives on the FOX Network claim Rodman slammed former Pres. Barack Obama, while in previous years the newser was against supporting North Korea.

Translators were present  for 40 minutes of the encounter which lasted for a total of 5 hours.  The text from the peace agreement is below:

President Donald J Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong-un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a first, historic summit in Singapore on June 12, 2018.
President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un conducted a comprehensive, in-depth, and sincere exchange of opinions on the issues related to the establishment of new US-DPRK relations and the building of a lasting and robust peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong-un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
Convinced that the establishment of new US-DPRK relations will contribute to the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and of the world, and recognizing that mutual confidence-building can promote the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un state the following:
  1. The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new US-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.
  2. The United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
  3. Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work towards complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
  4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.
Having acknowledged that the US-DPRK summit — the first in history — was an epochal event of great significance and overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries and for the opening of a new future, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un commit to implement the stipulations in this joint statement fully and expeditiously.
