This year's White House hosted Congressional cookout has a fancy menu

The White House has planned a wet-nap optional outing on the longest day of summer for Congressional leaders and their families. Perhaps due to criticism for the fast foods served to college champs, the Clemson Tigers when they visited the White House earlier this year, they have stepped up the game for this year's picnic, opting for fancier foods than at most traditional American picnics. The Slice has more about the plans to meet on common ground and celebrate the solstice. . While on Thursday, Congressional members and Pres. Donald Trump met at the table to discuss the prospect of war with Iran over recent attacks against the U.S., they will be able to turn their attention to family at a calmer "table" tomorrow. (Trump had considered making the decision on how to respond to Iran without input from Congress.) But, by Friday when the POTUS and Congressional leaders see each other again, the White House will be serving a fancy feast at the annual Congressional Picnic. You will not find any BBQ rib bones or potato salad at this cookout Cooks have already begun to  grill the rib-eye  steaks that will be served. The menu also consists of home-made chips and White House honey and a variety of meat options. The vegans will have to settle for fresh fruits.
Prepared by White House Executive Chef Christeta Comerford other menu items include charred lemon chicken, grilled plank salmon, and Baja shrimp tacos.  Side dishes include salad from the White House garden, and  assortment of fruit grown in California, Washington State and Georgia. An assortment of cookies, brownies and pies will be served a la mode for dessert.

First Lady Melania Trump said, "My husband and I are looking forward to tomorrow's Congressional picnic.  It's an opportunity to for elected officials to put aside differences and come together as a community."

Vice Pres. Pence and Second Lady Karen will also attend.
