THE MOST HEATED MOMENT IN DEMOCRATIC DEBATE #3: CASTRO V. BIDEN

By Mona Austin

Can Joe  Biden "carry the ball all the way across the end line without fumbling" for Democrats?  Corey Booker ended the third Democratic debate on ABC Thursday night  posing this question.  The NJ Senator said he had been concerned about his presidential opponent fumbling  for years before he ran against him. In a post-debate interview he said it is a factor that could prevent the Democrats from defeating Pres. Donald Trump in 2020. This question stemmed form Julian Castro questioning former VP Biden's memory.  From the audience reaction (sighs and boos) his attack was considered a low blow.  Castro claimed that Biden forgot her said that signing up for the ACA was mandatory. Castro actually got it wrong on both fronts.  His debate tactic backfired and he was factually incorrect. Most of the candidates on that stage have since said it was a personal attack against Biden.  Castro also called Biden out for wanting ton associate with Pres. Obama for the victories in his record but avoiding questions about the failures in his record.  Biden defended himself responding, " I stand with Barack Obama all 8 years.  Good, bad and indifferent."
Worried that infighting can deter voters and cause the party to lose footing, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, following the tense exchange offered, "A House divided can not stand."
