IMPEACHMENT WATCH: The impeachment vote against President Donald J. Trump goes forth today

It is Dec. 18, 2019, the day that will go down as the day that a third president will be impeached in the United Stated. Pres. Donald J. Trump is only the fourth American leader to face impeachment in the history of the country. Pres. Richard Nixon left office before the impeachment charge stuck. The gavel will fall for a presidential impeachment vote by the full House on this historic morning at 9 a.m. Ever since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reversed the path to impeachment and decided to move forward with an impeachment inquiry on September 24, 2019, the president has said he has done nothing wrong and acted accordingly.  Pelosi received a 6-page letter from a remorseless Trump claiming she is “declaring war on democracy.“ He has submitted the Memo of the Ukraine call as further documented proof of his innocence.
Trump  says, “Read the transcript. I did nothing wrong.”

An impeachment inquiry in which several members of the Trump Administration testified revealed that by far, the phone call was not the only issue and not “perfect” as Trump says.  It is that call, spurred by a tip from a whistleblower that finally got us here after a two-year Mueller investigation failed to show he colluded with Russia.

After the Mueller Report was released the Republicans thought their leader's name was cleared, not knowing another strong allegation would come unexpectedly a few months later and pass the litmus test of high crimes and misdemeanors.  The impeachment will ensure that Trump is held accountable for his transgressions and is not above the law Democrats believe.  The president and Republican loyalists say the party will be more empowered by it and unify to re-elect him.
A Democratic majority is expected to impeach the president on two counts — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Pelosi, who hesitated to move forward on impeachment to avoid further dividing the nation, but says national security is at stake as Russian interference into the 2020 is happening now. The time for the debate is divided between parties with the House Rules Committee granting 3 hours each for lawmakers to state their positions. Trump will be getting briefed on impeachment proceedings by his staff throughout the day.
