History of Tulsa Massacre to be taught in Oklahoma Schools
In what is known as the Tulsa Race Riot, leading to the destruction of "Black Wall Street", hundreds were killed and 10,000 Blacks in Tulsa, OK were left homeless. Occurring over 3 days, it was the biggest racial catastrophe in America.
Several prosperous Black towns were destroyed by racially motivated violence in Post-Reconstruction era America. For years historians have tried to bring broad-scale attention to the Tulsa tragedy. Now, inspired by HBO's "The Watchman" which focuses on the story -- Oklahoma's schools will incorporate the history of that 1921 massacre into their curriculum this fall. It is ironic that a comic would bring this unfortunate event to light almost a century after it happened.
