Trump falsely claims there is an AIDS vaccine, lies about Obama's record on ploice reform
FACT CHECK: Pres. Trump made two false claims in his presser before signing an executive order on police reform at the White House on Tuesday and they are "huge."
1. In addressing progress on the development of a vaccine for the Coronavirus, he said there is a vaccine for AIDS. FALSE- there is not a vaccine or cure for AIDS. "These are the people, the best, the smartest, the most brilliant anywhere, and they’ve come up with the AIDS vaccine. They've come up with — or the AIDS, and, as you know, there's various things and now various companies involved. But the therapeutic for AIDS." He seemed to be trying to correct himself by saying "therapeutic" at the end of the remark. There are treatments, but NO VACCINE. In 2018 approximately 38,000 people were diagnosed with HIV infection in the U.S. and about 1.7 million globally. The millions of people managing their HIV/AIDS with medicine, should not mistake this wrong information as a new development in the field of medicine.
2. He said Obama/Biden did nothing, nor did they know how to do anything to reform policing. "President Obama and Vice President Biden never even tried to fix this during their eight-year period. The reason they didn't try is they had no idea how to do it," Trump falsely claimed in the White House Rose Garden. "He said President Obama did nothing on police reform, but the fact is they made a lot of progress and President Trump rolled it back," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Tuesday. FALSE AGAIN.
Along with Attorney General Eric Holder, the Obama Administration took action to improve standards in police departments around the nation that were dismantled under the Trump regime. One example is when they conducted a federal investigation into the Ferguson, MO police department and exposed a history of misconduct and bias.
Pres. Trump is confident that a Coronavirus vaccine will be out by the end of this year, he said.
