The House has introduced 1 article of impeachment at its first meeting in the Congressional chamber since the Capitol attack last Wednesday

(The Slice): House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has given Vice Pres. Mike Pence 24 hours to respond to removing Pres. Donald Trump from office by invoking the 25th amendment. Some Republicans along with Trump view Pence, who was a direct target of mob danger during the Capitol insurrrection, as a traitor. This is one of two options lawmakers are considering to eject Pres. Trump from office for threatening the U.S. government. The other option is impeachment which would shift priorities for the incoming Biden-Harrus adminiatration.

On Monday, House Resolution 21 was introduced to fomally request Pence's intervention.

One article od impeachment accusing the presidenf of inciting an insurrection was also introduced. In order for this approach to work, the cabinet would need to vote and 2 members have already resigned, making this an unlikely option. Eight cabinet members would need to vote in favor of the president's removal. Another factor that could delay the response is that the Senate is on recess until Jan 19.

A trial would run into the imauguration. All 100 of them would need to return to vote. A full floor vote is expected on by Wednesday.

The House is moving forward with a moral footing despite the short timelines for action. A resignation would be the easiest path forward, but Trump defiantly takes no responsibility for the violent Capitol incident that left 5 dead.
