THE LEGENDARY WHISPERS MAKE FIRST APPEARANCE ON BJG JAN. 24
The legendary R&B group, The Whispers, are making their first appearance on Black Entertainment Television’s (BET) “Bobby Jones Gospel” program on Sunday, January 24, 2010 @ 9 AM.
They will perform songs from their first gospel/inspirational CD, Thankful (Kingdom Records). The Top 10 CD has been winning over gospel and Urban AC radio programmers. Michael Tee at WXST in Charleston says, “It’s Gospel meets Quiet Storm” while Skip Dillard at New York’s WBLS says, “[For Thou Art With Me] is a really nice song. I could see it in gospel and R&B rotation.”
Several of the songs on “Thankful” were produced by gospel veteran Fred Hammond. “Working with The Whispers was truly a dream come true,” Hammond says. “I grew up listening to The Whispers and patterned a large part of my personal vocal style after, who have now become affectionately known as, uncles Scottie and Walter.”
The group known for R&B smashes such as “Rock Steady” and “And the Beat Goes On” have been planning this project for years. “We’ve been wanting to do this for ten years. God has been really, really good to the Whispers,” says founding member Nick Caldwell. “He was looking out for us even when we were ignoring Him. He allowed us to live long enough to do this inspirational CD that we want to use to inspire people to get closer to God.” Also joining the Whispers on this episode of “Bobby Jones Gospel” will be Kingdom Records label mates The Brown Sisters and also, the Rance Allen Group.
