A PRAYER FOR THE NATION -- Repent from your slave past to heal

A PRAYER FOR THE NATION
In order to heal any disease, the root cause of the illness must be identified.  America's system of government stands in need of atonement for current and past acts of corruption.  For this I pray out of concern for the nation and my fellow man and in obedience to the Holy Spirit. . .

Father God, Lord of Heaven and Earth:

I pray that the church in America rises up like the river of Jordan to purge, purify and renew our land.  In these morally corrupt, spiritually beleaguered, politically tumultuous times the United States of America stands in desperate need of atonement. Father, America needs you to cleanse her blood-stained hands.    Place a mirror before the sins she has committed as a country throughout  history, both domestically and abroad so that she may regurgitate them once and for all.  You, Father God, know them all.  Empower your people to once again be beacons of truth, light and love no matter how dark the day.

Grant our leaders the strength to lead by their deeds and not only by their words. May both religious and political leaders  seek your face and lean not to their own understanding in making decisions that impact us all.  Give our leaders the courage to lay the nation's faults, both past and present at your feet.  May those who commit vile and deceptive practices within our government repent and ask for forgiveness.   Cast out the murderous spirit that prowls into churches, schools, restaurants, clubs and other public places to devour lives. Bind the enemy's grip on law enforcement especially blessing them with good judgment to stop the unfair killing of unarmed African Americans.  Thank you for bestowing your tender mercies upon us despite our wrongs.

Reset our purpose to the way it was supposed to be at our nation's founding -- a place of freedom and justice for all.  Restore a sense of order, decency, and integrity to positions of high authority. For those who sit in seats of power, may their lifestyles be blameless both privately and publicly.  While we are divided along, political, religious and racial lines reveal the root cause of our tensions and until we know the direct cause of our troubles, pacify us with your Holy Spirit so that we won't crumble under conviction.  To the vagabond, oppressed and persecuted may we do justice and love mercy as your scripture teaches.  Protect our borders and keep us safely in your care from the North, South, East and West.

Heal our land in the name of Jesus.  Lastly, Lord, may this nation repent from slavery and any system that imitates it.  Amen!
