Rapper Kanye West once stated Pres. George Bush does not care about black people and from the sound of things, neither does he. In an appearance in the TMZ newsroom on Tuesday, West said: "When you hear about slavery for 400 years that sound like a choice . . . I like the word prison because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. . ." This statement upset TMZ producer Van Lathan to the point that he challenged West's thinking head on telling the rapper he has "morphed into something unreal."
Yeezy has made a habit of being controversial at the most inappropriate times.
West made the statement about Bush, then president, in 2005 because he had not given any personal attention to Hurricane Katrina victims. He jumped on stage and interrupted Taylor Swift's VMA acceptance speech in 2009, claiming she did not deserve the video of the year award, Beyonce did.
This time West is not getting away with his over-board antics.
The hip-hop community and media are not allowing the outspoken artist to get away with the insult. Artists such as T.I., Eve and Marlon Wayans disagreed openly. Actor Jamie Foxx blames TMZ for giving the rapper a platform as he thinks West is not well mentally. Detroit radio station 105.1 The Bounce is banning West completely. They said they will not play his music or even utter his name and are asking the public to join them using the hashtag #mutekanye. Hot 97 in New York City has also joined the West boycott, potentially hurting the sales of any of the artist's future recordings.
West who says he is a God and wants to run for president appears to be presenting an alternate reality just like his pal Trump did and garnered media coverage. West received backlash on Twitter losing 9 million followers recently when he expressed support for Trump. By the way, he admitted previously that he did not even vote in the 2016 election, but would have voted for Trump.
West also admits that he understands one signed up for slavery in this country. However CNNs Don Lemon pointed out the rapper "does not know history." It is history that includes documented slave uprisings and the methods of oppression the ruling class applied to keep the system of slavery running.
In America, slavery is still a taboo topic, but no other artist o rperson in public life has gone so far to diminish it the way Kanye West has.
