The NFL sanctioned Super Bowl Gospel Celebration where Ballers and Believers came together for fellowship once again capping off two decades of soul-lifting performances aired on BET Saturday night . Stars turned out in Atlanta where it all began as a vision from Melanie Few Campbell who finally got the approval from the NFL to produce the event in 1999 after being turned down 7 times. Few said, "I thought it was great opportunity to show how [the players] lean and rely on their faith."
From Atlanta Housewives' Nene Leakes to Cam Newton celebs were also in the house. Newton asked, "Is this party central or what?" before introducing the clip of how the event was conceived.
The performances moved the audience. Kirk Franklin kicked of the show bring the crowd to its feet. "Won't He Do It?" singer Koryn Hawthorne and Lecrae collaborated on "Unstoppable." The NFL players choir joined Hezekiah Walker with two selections, backing Walker on his song "Alright Now" and a player led the traditional church favorite "Jesus Will Work It Out." The legendary Winans concluded the show with two of their classic songs accompanied by R&B singer Tamia.
Von Miller Denver Broncos line backer was the recipient of the Faith in Action Award for establishing Von's Vision, an organization that assists children with getting glasses by ensuring they come to the children to perform professional eye exams. Miller said he wanted to give kids confidence as he can relate to wearing glasses. "To help over 1500 kids annually is nothing I ever dreamed of." Whenever you get an award for your off the field work feels good and is humbling.
