As Kamala Harris gets ready to become the first woman Vice President of the U.S., her hertiage as a graduate of an HBCU will be connected to the inauguration celebration. The Howard University band will usher her in to office on Wed., Jan. 20 briinging a festive energy to the otherwise virtual event. Biden and Harris will be sworn in, the ceremony is expected to start at about 11:30 a.m. ET on the west front of the U.S. Capitol building. Shortly before noon, Harris is set to be sworn in first by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Then at about 12 p.m. ET, Biden will be sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts. There won’t be a traditional inaugural parade down Pennsylvania Avenue on Wednesday, but there will be a virtual “Parade Across America.” The parade, which will follow Biden’s swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol and a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, will include performers and other representatives from all 50 states and several U.S. territories.
