Pastor Zachery Tims Succumbs -- Drug Overdose Suspected In Death

According to the  NYPD  Zachery Tims was found dead at a W Hotel in Time Square on August 12.  The ccause of death is unknown.

Orlando news station WFTV released the following statement on their Web site that will clarify previous reports that the body was discovered Sunday:
The New York City Police Department confirmed Tims died on Friday, August 12, 2011. Tims' body was found in room number 3711 at the W Hotel in New York's Times Square at approximately 6 p.m. The New York City Police Department reports Tims was found unresponsive on the floor in the room. Emergency responders pronounced him deceased. The New York City Medical Examiners office is awaiting results of an autopsy.
Tims escaped a life of drugs and violence on the streets of his home-town, Baltimore, MD to eventually lead a mega church that began with six members and grew to over 7,500.  Nationally known, the 42-year-old father of 4, co-founded/pastored New Destiny Christian Center in Orlando with his ex-wife Riva before their 15-year marraige ended in 2009 after he had an extra-marital affair.

Yesterday, new details have emerged in the death of Florida-based pastor Zachery Tims.

Citing a police source, the New York Daily News reports Tims' death could have been the result of an overdose from a white powder that was "in a small glassine envelope" that was inside his pocket, a suspected drug overdose.

The Christian Post reports that autopsy results are inconclusive and results from tissue and toxicology tests can take weeks.

A meeting was held at the church Tims founded, New Destiny Christian Center Monday night, to discuss the rumors and speculation regarding the 42-year-old pastor's death.
During a meeting with the congregants of New Destiny Ministries Monday evening, funeral plans were announced as follows:

 --Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Orlando.

 --The wake will be held at NDCC on Friday, August 19. Tims' body will be lying in state from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.


There will also be a limited viewing at First Baptist Church of Orlando, according to NDCC minister Wanda Robinson.
