BROOKLYN, NY’S “TRUE HOLY CHURCH – CITY OF REFUGE” NAMED WINNER OF MARY MARY’S SOMETHING BIG CONTEST

WINNING CONGREGATION RECEIVES A FREE MARY MARY CONCERT & BREAKFAST FROM PILLSBURY® EGG SCRAMBLES™ AND GRANDS!™ BISCUIT SANDWICHES
New York, NY (December 12, 2011) – Mary Mary’s Something Big Contest has concluded. With over 4,500 votes, the winning congregation is True Holy Church – City of Refuge located in Brooklyn, NY.  The Something Big Contest, a joint venture between My Block/Columbia Records recording artists Mary Mary and Pillsbury® Egg Scrambles™ and Grands! Biscuit Sandwiches, challenged churches across the nation to do something big for their communities.

The contest launched in October and submissions were accepted over a 6-week period. Churches were challenged to identify a meaningful need within their community, design and create a winning solution, and mobilize their ministry into positive action. Many churches submitted entries; however the finalists were narrowed down by Mary Mary according to the participating church’s creativity, inspiration, and impact on the community. After the finalists were selected, the general public voted on the winning church.

True Holy Church’s community service initiative captured the essence of the contest. The 100 member church has been serving their community through their Kitchen Pantry and Clothing Bank since 1988. The church’s members volunteer every Saturday morning preparing and giving out bags containing food for those in need and simultaneously run a clothing drive where the community can obtain as many articles of clothing as they need without limitations. The Kitchen Pantry project donates an average of 275 bags to the community a week and reported 10,000 bags given to the community, roughly equaling 33, 000 recipients in 2010.

As a result of their faithful service, True Holy Church – City of Refuge will receive a one-hour, Mary Mary concert complete with a live band and a breakfast sponsored by Pillsbury’s new frozen breakfast line for which Mary Mary is the featured artist behind the product’s television jingle, “Brand New Morning.”
