Tribbett Performed on BET’s Celebration of Gospel

(Nashville, TN – April 8, 2013) – Motown Gospel/Kingdom Music recording artist Tye Tribbett’s new single “If He Did It Before…Same God” enters at #1 on iTunes. The single is also #17 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Singles chart. And his Motown Gospel debut project, Greater Than, will be in stores on June 4 (see attached CD cover).

On the historic night of the launch of Motown Gospel at the Arc Theatre in Los Angeles, GRAMMY®-nominated and multiple Stellar Award-winner, Tye Tribbett performed “If He Did It Before…Same God” and other new music from his Motown Gospel debut album, Greater Than, for a standing room audience of over a 1,000 industry VIPs and supporters from all over the country. With additional performances by Tribbett’s label mates Smokie Norful, Kierra Sheard and Tasha Cobbs, the Motown Gospel showcase was streamed live to nearly 200,000 viewers.

Tribbett opened this season of BET’s Celebration of Gospel, where he performed his new single. “We at Motown Gospel are thrilled with our partnership with Tye and his ministry,” says Larry Blackwell, General Manager and Vice President of Motown Gospel. “His new song and upcoming album are sure to positively impact lives and re-establish his sound and music in 2013 and beyond."

Plans are underway for a promotional tour in May and June. “Tye’s one-of-a-kind brand is on full display on his new project,” says Karen Jackson, Director of Marketing of Motown Gospel. “As we market the uniqueness of his music, ministry and style, we will continue to build his platform and create opportunities in the gospel and urban mainstream arenas.”

Tribbett has recorded four albums with numerous groundbreaking and chart-topping hit singles. His highly praised debut album, Life (2004), brought Tribbett and his group, GA (Greater Anointing), a wide array of new fans and a Stellar Award nomination. Tribbett’s sophomore project with GA, Victory, was released in 2006, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. This break-out project, which included the #1 gospel radio single, “Victory,” received three Stellar Awards, three GRAMMY® Award nominations and a Dove Award nomination. His third release, Stand Out (2008), again topped the charts and earned the group another nomination for a GRAMMY® Award. In 2009, Tribbett, who is also an accomplished musician who plays multiple instruments, retired GA and made other changes in his musical style and direction, resulting in the 2010 release of the aptly named Fresh. The CD, which the Washington Post called “a wondrous album,” also entered Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart at #1.

Tribbett first came to national attention in 1997 when he entered his group, GA, into the McDonalds and Wrigley’s Gospel choir competitions, where they "swept the competitions," winning first place in all categories. The group quickly became highly in demand, performing with music industry superstars Gloria Estefan, LeAnn Rimes, Elton John, Luther Vandross, and Stevie Wonder. They also appeared with Jill Scott, India Arie, John Mellencamp, Musiq Soulchild, and The Roots, among many other artists, and toured with Faith Hill and Don Henley.
