Cedric the Entertainer resigns as 'Millionaire' host; Terry Crews steps in

buzzz worthy. . .

By Mona Austin

The Old Spice guy -- Terry Cruz will replace Cedric The Entertainer as the host of "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire." Cedric is so busy he can no longer maintain the 'Millionaire'  gig, he said in a statement.

Ceddie (as his girlfriend on the "Steve Harvey Show" called him) served as host for a year following  a decade of hosting by Meredith Vierra.  The King of Comedy said in a statement that the moving parts of his acting schedule will no loner be able to accommodate the show's move to a new production facility in Connecticut.

"With the many television and film projects that I have going on which shoot and promote in various parts of the country, a production-base in Connecticut would make it quite difficult to maneuver the many moving parts on my plate," he said in a statement. "So, after much thought and some serious conversations with senior executives at the studio, I decided to let Disney-ABC know that, unfortunately, I'm not able to continue on as host. It has truly been a fantastic ride hosting Millionaire this year — a really great time! Thanks so much to all the fans, contestants, crew, and everyone involved for making it such a fun and gratifying experience."

Never hesitant to show off the muscular remains of his athletic past, he recently shared  in a "peck duet" with Jimmy Fallon that went viral.  Cruz has done much more than flex his muscles in Old Spice ads including acting and playing professional football.

“In addition to my film projects including Blended, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and now being a first time author, hosting has always been a dream of mine, and I couldn’t have asked for a greater opportunity,” he said. Crews’ recent credits include a recurring stints on The Newsroom and Arrested Development and roles in Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club and Ivan Reitman’s Draft Day. Next up is the comedy Blended with Adam Sandler and he’ll be reprising his role as “Hale Caesar” in the third installment of the Expendables franchise. Crews also penned his first book, memoir “Manhood,” which comes out May 20.
