Will Katy Perry Break the Internet?

"I came from nothing and I created this world with my own strength," Katy Perry she said on a GMA interview  that aired on January 12, 2015. Perry is the featured half time performer at 49th Super Bowl, airing on February 1, 2015.

When a star gets the  call from the NFL to perform  on the Super Bowl half time show, they are apt to say yes to the opportunity because  they know the benefits and rewards of being  handed the biggest stage in the world. It's like getting a veritable pay raise as past  entertainers have seen an immediate hike in album sales, chart position, and ticket sales.

Being a Super Bowl act is a high pressure undertaking that requires a spectacular performance that  lives up to all the historic hype.  In order to be memorable an artist is expected to bring a special kind of magic to the field.  It takes a talent with a strong brand to do the job.

Last year  a captive audience of 115-million people tuned in to the Super Bowl XVIII.  Becoming the most watched musical event ever, the half time show  featuring Bruno Mars and his band was thoroughly entertaining, following the enormous success of the Beyonce/Destiny' Child reunion the previous year. Both acts definitely had the "abracadabra" factor.  Mars' record sales were up by 90 percent after the mid-game appearance and Beyonce saw a 60 percent hike in her record sales.  But, that's TV and we all know the  impact of its reach.

This year it looks as if the powers that  be are reaching for a ratings win off the tube too in selecting the most popular artist in the social media universe as the centerpiece to their game day experience, Katy Perry. As  the headliner of the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show on NBC in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona Perry  is in a league of her own on the Internet.

There is no question that the "Dark Horse" singer  can deliver "fireworks" as an entertainer.  As a brand, Perry  has a roaring 63 million Twitter followers, literally  more than anyone else on the planet. She also has 12.3 million Instagram followers and over 76 million likes on Facebook. And boy are those followers loyal. Her latest album went quadruple platinum during a time when records sales are in the doldrums.     Rock guitar God Lenny Kravit will be joining the set to perform "America Woman", this could break the internet. In a press conference ahead of the game the "Roar" singer said she may be the first person to involve  lion and a whale in her set and she promised to deliver and extravagant entrance and exit.  SPOILER ALERT:  Missy Elliot will also make a surprise appearance during the 12.5 minute performance break.

NBC has a "golden egg" in Perry and they knew exactly what to do even before it hatches. Combining various forms of advertisement, publicity and promotion of her appearance has been set  into motion form day one. They teased fans about what to expect from Perry  all to the way until the week of the game where the headliner only assured reporters that it will be the biggest half time show yet.  It's a cliche. But coming from Perry it's a safe bet that its true.

The NFL use to pay artists to perform, but now offers the exposure, which of course is worth millions of dollars.  With Perry and crew on the field the return on their investment online is expected to be yield a high return too, a true win-win situation for all stake holders.  Let the half time games begin!
