(NASHVILLE, Tennessee) -- Nashville Rising Star crowned emerging songwriter Robby Hopkins as the Grand Prize winner of their popular open-mic contest on Wednesday, April 29 at Wild Wing Cafe in Cool Springs.

Robby, along with over 200 Nashville (and beyond) songwriters competed in seven weekly preliminary competitions where the audience and music industry professionals selected their favorite song. 14 semi-finalists went head to head and were pared down to the final four songwriters. They were Lexi Lew, Chris Garner, Karen Waldrup and Robby Hopkins.

Robbys song, Lay Me Down, was selected as the most commercial song with the potential to be recorded by a popular artist by the audience and music industry judges, including music producer, Lynn Nichols, Global Songwriters founder, Sheree Spoltore (www.globalsongwriters.com), National Underground Records A&R head and music producer, Don DeMumbrum (www.dondemumbrum.com), song plugger and artist developer/manager, Chris Keaton (www.chriskeaton.com), and Country Fan Jam creator, Dale Guthery (www.countryfanjam.com).

Robby was awarded over $2,500 in cash and prizes provided by event host Wild Wing Cafe, Global Songwriters and other sponsors of the event. Robby also was awarded a coveted performance slot on the main stage at the Country Fan Jam festival (www.countryfanjam.com) being held June 11-14, 2015 at Tennessee Fairgrounds. Robby will perform his winning song before headlining act Darryl Worley on Saturday, June 13 at 8pm. All four finalists will perform on the acoustic stage on Saturday, June 13. Another performance opportunity for all finalists was provided by the Smoky Mountain Songwriters Festival (www.smswf.com), being held in Gatlinburg, TN in August.

Nashville Rising Star creator, Keith Mohr states, This was the best series of Nashville Rising Star weve had so far! The caliber of talent attracted to the event was very good and the turnout was more than ever. This event has become the premier discovery vehicle in the Nashville area for emerging songwriters.

Previous winners have gone on to bigger things in their careers due to the exposure and connections made at Nashville Rising Star, including newly signed Warner Nashville artist Calynn Green, who won a previous series. Our last series winner, Chris James, regularly co-writes with Calynn and other Warner/Chapell writers, and we expect him to be signed soon, says Mohr.

Another series of Nashville Rising Star is planned to start May 27th back at Wild Wing Cafe in Cool Springs. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
