Top 10 Republicans named for Thursdays debate

buzzz worthy. . .

The FOX News Channel (FNC) has revealed the  top ten participants for the first Republican debate the network will host Thursday in Cleveland, OH.  Who made the cut, besides controversial candidate Donald Trump, a former Democrat? Nine other White House hopefuls were selected to face off in the presidential primary debate including: Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich Fox News announced on Tuesday.

Top 10 GOP candidates invited to take part in the FOX News hosted prime time debate on August 6, 2015.
From L-R: Bush,

Carson, Christie, Cruz, Kasich, Paul, Rubio, Trump, Walker.
Per FNC, the prime-time debate will be moderated by America’s Newsroom co-anchors, Bill Hemmer and Martha MacCallum,  from 9-11PM/ET.

This initial debate will serve as an "infomercial" for the candidates' ideas on key issues and  presumably sets the Republican field.  Those selected for the prim-time airing have an advantage for  months to come.

The candidates who did not qualify for the prime-time GOP primary debate were invited to participate in a 90-minute forum,  from 1-3PM/ET, which some are calling the "happy hour" debate, relegating 2012 Iowa Caucus winner Rick Santorum, three-term former New York governor George Pataki to "underdog" status in the race for president.  Among the seven other Republicans  who did not make the prime time cut are: Rick Perry, Bobby Jindal, the only woman in the running Carly Fiorina, George Pataki, Lindsey Graham, and the final entry in the Republican campaign, former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore.  Santorum complained that the selection process was flawed and the network should not be choosing winners and losers.

Candidates were selected based on the following forum participation criteria:
  • Must meet all U.S. Constitutional requirements; and
  • Must announce and register a formal campaign for president; and
  • Must file all necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), and
  • Must score 1% or higher in an average of the five most recent national polls, as recognized by FOX News leading up to August 4th at 5 PM/ET. Such polling must be conducted by major, nationally recognized organizations that use standard methodological techniques.
The forum will be presented  on FNC, as well as on the network’s other platforms, including FOX News Radio, FOX News Mobile and FOXNews.com. Following the forum, the network will have a discussion on Facebook.
