ICYMI: Why Minaj and Swift were beefing over the VMAs. . .

buzzz worthy. . .

With the summer award season up and running, it would seem like the Twitterverse would have be teeming with excitement among fans and especially nominees. But apparently Hollywood drama takes precedent over positive entertainment news.  The supposed feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift isn't the only "Bad Blood" Swift has been experiencing lately. Beginning Tuesday (July 21), when the MTV VMA nominations for Video of the Year were announced, rapper  Minaj was displeased with  not being nominated for the top category. Of course  she tweeted about it and Swift took offense to it:
If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year

Under the impression Nicki was throwing shade in her direction, Taylor "swiftly" replied:

I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot

Nicki then appears to be confused:

Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.

Taylor attempts to take the high road and make light of the matter making Nicki an offer:

If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on.
The Twitter spat then sparked an nationwide battle: Taylor VS Nicki. It has been said that Nicki was trying to bring attention to a bigger issue: racism in the music industry and how people fail to recognize white privilege. Minaj even began promoting articles supporting why she was right to call out the music industry and Swift was wrong to call her out:
    Great article, thank you

Many other celebrities such as Katy Perry had something to say about the feud:

Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman...

That was definitely a subtweet directed at Taylor Swift since Perry is the one rumored to be the subject of the "Bad Blood" music video.
Even Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran (both nominees for the Video of the Year Award) got in on the action, creating a fake twitter feud mocking Swift and Minaj's conversation:

Yo I want in on this twitter Beef!! VMAs is the new WWF!! Fuck You!

any way we do dis you gon' come up short

So who won this Twitter war? Taylor issued a public apology on twitter two days later to Nicki:

I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki.

    Nicki accepts Taylor's apology:
That means so much Taylor, thank you.

The spat between Minaj and Swift blew over as fast.  Nicki even talked to Taylor on the phone later on. Nicki told Lara Spencer on Good Morning America, "She was super, super sweet and she apologized...".

Last month, Minaj and Swift opened the VMAs in a surprise collaboration that gave the Twitterverse something more comely to talk about.  All's well that ends well.
